Forgot thrust washer on DYNAMIXEL XM540-W270-T horn

Hi folks,

In assembling my DYNAMIXEL XM540-W270-T drive side servo horn, I forgot to add the thrust washer. The splined shaft is a very tight fit on the horn, so I am afraid to try to remove it for fear of causing damage. My questions are:

  • Is it okay to run the servo without the thrust washer?

  • Is there a good way to pull the drive side horn off the splined drive shaft without causing damage?

Thank you!

Ihab

Running the actuator without the thrust washer isn’t going to result in immediate or catastrophic damage to your actuator, but It will produce additional wear and tear on the casing and horn.

The best way to remove the horn is using a bearing puller, but if you do not have one of them handy I have created a DYNAMIXEL maintenance video showing a way to remove them using DYNAMIXEL case screws.
